Custom keyboard enthusiasts have likely heard of “aluminium chassis” (keyboard with CNC case), but now the Kzzi K98 introduces the concept of “rubber chassis” — a keyboard with a shell made using thick rubber injection molding. The thickness of the injection molding is comparable to aluminium chassis, making the K98 more robust than ordinary keyboards with plastic shells. If one attempts to bend the edges of a regular keyboard, it is easily deformed, but with the “rubber chassis” keyboard, such issues are nonexistent.
Let’s break down the multi-layer design based on the exploded view diagram. The five-layer stereo filling consists of a mid-plate with Poron foam, IXPE under-switch padding, PCB protective film, bottom sound-damping foam, and PET sound optimization pad. All of these layers are designed to reduce the volume generated by the resonance of the device.
The thick rubber chassis mentioned above adds to the overall weight and thickness, giving the keyboard a more muffled sound when keys are struck. This results in a significant reduction in overall volume.
The USB wireless receiver magnetically attaches to the storage slot, while the USB-C cable port is positioned on the opposite side for symmetry.
From this angle, you can also see several prominent nuts, adding to the mechanical aesthetic. These nuts are made of copper,
which is of better quality than aluminum nuts, making them suitable for custom keyboard enthusiasts who may need to dismantle and reinstall the components multiple times.
The light guide column of the Poseidon switches from Jerrzi allows for a more uniform distribution of lighting, and the dynamic RGB lighting effects bring a sense of vitality to the keyboard with its desolate aesthetic.
It supports three connection modes: wired, Bluetooth, and 2.4G. As for system compatibility, it supports both Windows and MacOS, effectively covering most common operating systems.
On the top right corner of the keyboard, there is an aluminum alloy multi-function scroll wheel, which allows for various operations such as turning the keyboard on or off, switching between connection modes, and adjusting the volume.
After downloading the dedicated driver software from the official website, users can fine-tune the settings for lighting, keybinds, and other features, adding an element of fun to the customization process.
With the adoption of the Leaf-Spring Gasket structural design, the K98 keyboard's typing feel is greatly enhanced. The overall resonance caused by typing is eliminated through the design itself.
